WaterWay Fishtail Glide Monofin – Custom Competition Monofin for Freediving & Finswimming

The WaterWay Fishtail Glide Monofin is an upgraded iteration of WaterWay’s world-renowned Glide — one of the most advanced custom monofins on the market. It combines a hand-made fishtail-shaped composite fiber blade with revolutionary cast rubber foot pockets, delivering exceptional grip, energy transfer, and hydrodynamic responsiveness for competitive freediving, finswimming, and immersion distance events.

Why Choose the WaterWay Fishtail Glide Monofin?

  • New fishtail blade geometry for increased responsiveness and hydrodynamic stability
  • Revolutionary cast rubber foot pockets for optimal grip and maximum energy transfer
  • CMAS-approved — available with official CMAS sticker for sanctioned competition use
  • Five blade stiffness options to match swimmer weight, experience level, and race distance
  • Fully customizable: foot size, foot width, blade width, blade stiffness, and color
  • Ideal for competitive freediving, finswimming, immersion distances, and depth training
  • Weight: approximately 3.9 kg — built for powerful, resistance-building performance

Hand-Made Fishtail Blade for Elite Responsiveness

The Fishtail Glide features a hand-crafted composite fiber blade shaped in WaterWay’s distinctive fishtail profile — a design that increases lateral stability and improves blade tracking through the water. The advanced composite construction delivers the stiffness, resilience, and precision required at the highest levels of freediving and finswimming competition. Buoyancy transitions to negative at a depth of 5–10 metres, making it ideal for constant weight depth training and competition dives.

Revolutionary Cast Rubber Foot Pockets

The Fishtail Glide is fitted with WaterWay’s proprietary cast rubber foot pockets — engineered specifically to conform to the shape of the foot for a secure, anatomical fit. This direct connection between foot and blade eliminates energy loss during the kick cycle, resulting in faster, more efficient undulation strokes. The foot pockets are available in a wide range of sizes (EU 35–47) and foot widths (80mm–120mm), ensuring a truly custom fit for every athlete.

Built for Competition and Depth Training

The Fishtail Glide is equally at home in pool finswimming races as it is on deep-water freediving dives. Its blade is engineered to perform across immersion distances from 50m up to 3000m, as well as freediving competition formats. The negative buoyancy below 5–10m makes descents effortless, while the responsive fishtail blade provides powerful propulsion during ascent and sprint efforts. It is the monofin of choice for athletes training and competing at national and international level.

Frequently Asked Questions

What blade stiffness should I choose?

Stiffness selection depends on your body weight, leg strength, and intended use. Stiffness 1 (Very Soft) suits lighter or younger athletes and breath-hold depth dives. Stiffness 2–3 covers most adult freedivers and intermediate finswimmers. Stiffness 4–5 is for heavier, more powerful athletes focused on sprint finswimming distances. When in doubt, Medium (Stiffness 3) is the safest starting point — contact us with your weight and primary use and we can advise further.

How do I measure my foot width?

Foot width is measured across the widest part of your bare foot in millimetres while standing. Most adults fall between 85mm and 105mm. Selecting the correct foot width is important for a snug, energy-efficient fit — too wide and the foot pocket will flex laterally, reducing power transfer. Use a ruler or measuring tape while standing on a flat surface( a piece of paper) for the most accurate measurement.

What is the advantage of the fishtail blade shape over a standard blade?

The fishtail blade shape increases lateral water resistance at the tip of the blade, improving stability and blade tracking during undulation. This makes the fin feel more controlled in open water and at depth, reducing side-to-side yaw during the kick cycle. Many athletes find the fishtail shape more intuitive and stable, particularly during ascents and in currents or open ocean conditions. Can I choose my preferred color for foot pockets and wings separately?

Yes. The Fishtail Glide is fully customizable — you can select your preferred color for the wings and foot pockets independently from a wide range of options including Black, Blue, Red, Green, White, Beige, Grey, Violet, and Yellow. Please note that due to supply chain changes affecting certain colored rubber, WaterWay may substitute the closest available color if your chosen color is out of stock. This is noted in WaterWay’s Terms and Conditions.
